So I did my presentation today on my TED talk and I was wondering how everyone was feeling about theirs. Nervous? Have a great idea you can't wait to present?

I find this video quite intriguing.
I find this video quite fascinating. I am interested in how the human body works and this video speaks on an interesting topic. Do you think that it would be a good video for the English research project?

How do you feel about your paper?
So, how does everyone feel about their papers due Monday? Mine involved Lady Gaga and Madonna. I decided to change from Marilyn Monroe since there was a better cnnection between Lady Gaga and Madonna. I feel fairly good about my paper. What problems has everyone encountered with their papers? I had problems just organizing all the information into a way that fit into the contextual analysis format. It was difficult not to make it almost into a research paper. So, anyways. Problems? Feelings? Share them.

Contextual Analysis paper, my idea... Thumbs up or down?
I have been pondering over what to write about for my contextual analysis paper and I have come to one that keeps popping up. This is slightly random so here goes... I was watching the music video to Alejandro by Lady Gaga the other day with my roommate and there is one scene in which Lady Gaga mimicks Marilyn Monroe. Then it dawned on me... Why not compare the two icons? How Marilyn Monroe was viewed during her time period and now, and how Lady Gaga is viewed today and how she might be viewed in the future. Any thoughts? Thumbs up or down?

Children of Men. Intense movie with... Implications?
The movie Children of Men is an adrenaline filled, heart-racing, tension filled, thriller that will keep you enthralled till the very end. The ending of this movie leaves many questions unaswered that throughout the movie are posed. An example of one of the questions is, "Is the government the reason behind the infertility crisis?" Does this question imply that our government will be our downfall in the future? And what type of rhetoric is implied?Wednesday, September 8, 2010
"American Idiot" simply Genius? Ethos? Logos? Pathos?
Green Day's 2004 album "American Idiot" was presented with high ratings, recieved many awards, and sold millions of copies, launching the band to be named the biggest band in the world for the 2nd time in their 18 year carreer at the time. The lyrics and song titles in the album are highly suggestive towards political views and aren't sugar-coated in any way about expressing the band's views upon how the government was running the country at the time. What are your views on the album. Is there Ethos, Pathos, or Logos? If so, explain.Friday, August 27, 2010

Trick-and- No treats
This particular political cartoon illustrates the growing attention towards the increasing worries concerning healthiness and the neurotic fears of nutritional value in certain foods. This political cartoon from Fitz is designed to mock and shed light upon the quote, "health freaks" of America.
The picture shows that it is Halloween, a holiday based on the tradition of handing out candy to all the trick-or-treaters, by the children wearing costumes and the Jack-O-Lantern placed upon a stool filled to the brim with candy. The mother in this cartoon represents not only the "health freak" mentality that a growing number of Americans are adopting, but also the rational and normal thought process on the dangers of trick-or-treating.
The mother’s statement is, “Have fun but be careful. There are some sick evil people out there who might be handing out treats laced with trans-fats and sugars.” The validity of the mother’s statement holds true and has a touch of irony alongside the basic natural precaution lectures most parents give their children before they go off trick-or-treating. The mother’s usage of the word sick in her statement also alludes to the unhealthiness of the candy that might be handed out to trick-or-treaters.
But, does the health freak mentality have such a strong hold upon Americans as the cartoon portrays? Does this cartoon accurately represent it?

The Video on Friday the 20th in English 101
The Video my English 101 class watched Friday August 20th was a delight. It was informative and captured my attention immediately. I'm a visual learner and how the video clips tied in to the topic and my past experiences watching the Disney movies made the message the video was portraying stick in my memory.
